COVID-19

Dear Kid Care Pediatrics Families,

Understandably, we have received many calls in recent days regarding the global pandemic of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Our office is diligently monitoring the current global, national, and local recommendations regarding COVID-19. We are working to make sure our patients are as safe as possible, and provide care to both sick and well patients. Fortunately, it appears that COVID-19 symptoms seem to be mild in children, and children tend to do well when they do get the illness.

In order to keep all of our patients and staff members safe, we are making changes to our appointment scheduling and changing our appointment procedures. This means we are moving our doctors and nurse practitioners between offices, as required, to meet our patients’ needs. You may be asked to see a provider who is new to you or to be seen at a different office than usual. If you have an upcoming appointment already scheduled, we will contact you if any changes are needed. You will still receive the same excellent care that we always strive to give you and your child. We will, of course, try to accommodate your requests, but our first priority is patient safety. We will also ask that, if at all possible, only one person accompany your child to their appointment.

When you call for an appointment, expect to be asked about (1) COVID-19 exposures and (2) travel to high risk countries or areas of our country. We will also ask if your child has had symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, lower respiratory symptoms or respiratory difficulty). It is crucial for the safety of all our patients that you answer these questions accurately. If there is a positive response, you will be instructed to remain in place with your child at home and be given further directions on the next steps to be taken. If you and your child arrive at the office with known COVID-19 exposure or travel to a high risk area, you will be instructed to remain in place in your car and sent home while arrangements are made through the Health Department for further medical management and care. These steps are necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to other Kid Care Pediatrics patients, medical staff, and the surrounding community.

As of Monday, March 15th, we will move all our patients with fever, cough, or lower respiratory symptoms to a special treatment area at our Keller office. In this area, your child will be checked in from your car and not come in contact with other patients. Your child will be fully evaluated by one of our physicians or nurse practitioners and have any needed tests or prescriptions provided. It is our belief that most children seen with these symptoms will be able to return home to recover, but we are prepared if your child needs a higher level of care.

If your child needs a well check or a visit for a non-fever related illness or injury, we have you covered! Our staff taking care of your child at those visits will not be working with our sick patients at all that day. We have increased our cleaning practices and will ask families to sit separately in the waiting room. As always, we will work to get your child back into a room as quickly as possible. We will still provide all normal services and expect to remain fully functional as a pediatric medical office.

The health and well-being of your child is our life’s work. We take this responsibility very seriously. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we change our normal practice operations to meet the needs of all of our patients. If your child needs an appointment for any reason, please call your usual Kid Care Pediatrics office and we will take it from there!
